Spending time outdoors, even if it’s just twenty minutes a day, is beneficial for your well-being. However, going on a complete camping trip takes the experience to a whole new level. Whether you choose to visit a remote location in the desert, relax by a lake at a popular family camping spot, or embark on a backpacking adventure with a partner, the time spent outdoors is unmatched. It provides a great opportunity to disconnect from the real world and reconnect with yourself. Before you plan your next trip, ensure that you have the necessary gear for your camping and hiking activities. If you are new to camping, the vast array of camping suggestions at stores like Backcountry, REI, and Amazon can be overwhelming. Similarly, if you are an experienced camper, you may question whether your old gear, stored away, is still reliable for another year.
BACKPACKING PACKS
I believe that regardless of the size of the bag, it will be filled completely. Due to this reason, I prefer smaller backpacks. By beginning with a compact backpack, I ensure that I pack effectively, purchase high-quality lightweight equipment, and have a significantly lighter load when hiking.
The Osprey Exos 48 is my preferred backpacking pack, despite receiving several other backpacks over time. However, I always find myself returning to this one. Recently, Osprey introduced a women’s version of this pack called the Eja. Although I have yet to test it out, I have heard positive reviews. The Exos and Eja both have more robust frames than typical lightweight packs, allowing for comfortable carrying of heavier loads. Moreover, considering the quality of the backpack, they are also reasonably priced.
After receiving recommendations from friends, I decided to buy the HMG 2400 Southwest pack, knowing that their judgments are usually reliable. This purchase has turned me into a firm believer as well. Designed to provide maximum comfort and functionality, the HMG 2400 is made to endure a significant amount of rough treatment. Additionally, it is both waterproof and lightweight, and surprisingly spacious when it comes to accommodating my gear.
Granite Gear Crown2 60L – Granite Gear has long been respected within the ultra-light and thru-hiking communities. I carried a Granite Gear pack for years before they discontinued the specific pack that I used. Since then, the super light Grown2 has become a staple in their lineup of well constructed and functional packs.
Despite being the heaviest pack on this list, the Osprey Packs Aura AG 65L excels in providing comfort, organization, and durability. Its “Anti-Gravity” back panel offers excellent ventilation, and the impressive suspension effectively reduces the strain of carrying heavier loads.
TENT
When it comes to backpacking, a tent is a crucial investment as it impacts various aspects, from your comfort and enjoyment to your safety in the wilderness. Essentially, it serves as your home away from home. Although there are numerous choices available, important factors to consider include price, weight, interior space, design, and set up, among other considerations.
This upcoming camping season, I will be testing the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL3 Tent. It features two doors and two vestibules, as well as double-wall construction, making it convenient to set up. Although the Tiger Wall is not technically freestanding like the Nemo Blaze, it is still easy to move around when selecting a spot. However, for a completely freestanding option, I already own the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. Due to their compact size, ultra-light two-person tents do not offer much space for spreading out. Hence, I prefer using the 3 person tent for trips where I anticipate needing additional storage space, don’t feel comfortable being close to my tent partner, or expect to spend a significant amount of time inside the tent.
When you desire a bit more space for lounging without the added burden of carrying additional weight, it serves as an exceptionally appealing choice.
I used the Marmot Tungsten 2P Tent for camping and noticed that it closely resembles the Big Agnes Copper Spur in terms of size and feel, but at a more affordable price.
The Hubba Habba may not be the lightest tent on this list, but it could possibly be the most durable, ensuring it can withstand any summer storms you may encounter.

The Thermacell Lighted E-Series Rechargeable Mosquito Repeller is an alternative option to using bug spray that does not require you to cover your entire body. The device can be used for up to 9 hours before needing to be charged (5.5 hours if the lantern is also on), so it is important to keep it charged and refilled while at the campsite.
The Solo Stove Titan is a convenient alternative to building a fire from scratch, as it quickly creates a bright and full fire by utilizing sticks and Kindle found around your campsite.
When off the grid, the best way to stay connected is by using a proper GPS locator like the Garmin inReach Mini 2. This device enables two-way satellite communication and offers weather updates and course paths.
