As I have aged, I have increasingly recognized the significance of having solitary moments. Considering my existing fondness for being outdoors, embarking on solo backpacking seemed like a fitting means for me to begin dedicating time to myself, my contemplations, and the magnificent natural environment. However, once I acknowledged that fear was the sole obstacle impeding my progress, I became determined to overcome those emotions and venture out. Nevertheless, it is important to recognize that executing this is easier in theory than in practice.
To help calm my mind, I decided to find and investigate an easy trail where I was confident I could easily quit if I didn’t feel like continuing. After reaching the trail, my muscle memory automatically kicked in and before I realized it, I was setting up camp for the night. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable I felt in that environment, as you never truly know until you experience it firsthand. I discovered that it was incredibly soothing to go at my own pace, stop whenever I wanted, and indulge in something just for myself. I attribute my sense of belonging out there to my extensive backpacking background. I eagerly anticipate gaining more solo experience, and perhaps next time I will attempt a multi-day excursion.
